Son of Batman was terrible......Oh hi, I'm Ra'as Al Ghul, the most dangerous Mofo around! Oh, but you have guns vs my sword? Ya'll r gonna surround me and shoot one by one? AFTER you get close to me? You guys are gonna run after me instead of using the iron sights?
Talia and Damian? Felt NO investment to them as characters........Damian? Stupidly OP and has no development except for deciding not to kill just because daddy said no once.
They botched Deathstroke by making him not only weak, but weaker than Damian in personality, tactics and combat skill. . . . . .
Flashpoint? Would have been a LOT better if I had more time to become invested in the characters. Seeing Wonder Woman's and Aquaman's backstories in the FP unvierse made me think: "so? they are both still mass-murdering psychopaths and scumbags and I hope they both die." The best scene was Batman killing Zoom and the conception that everyone dies is pretty gritty, but still? It would have been so much more heartbreaking if I had the time to get to know these guys that this movie did not offer.
Batman Assault on Arkham fixed literally ALL of the problems that Son of Batman and Flashpoint had.
It gave me time to become invested and care about these evil psychopaths, it made me think that they were actually people and not just mass murdering lunatics even killer frost! It showed a depth to Harley Quinn and Joker that I haven't seen before, albeit the Joker's treatment of her still disgusts me, it still showed me another side.
Before the climax and the action scene, it got me invested and I wanted to see if these guys survived and was secretly praying for Batman to fail, because I wanted Deadshot, Killer Frost, Shark, Harley and Black Spider to survive! But it couldn't be. Because Batman's failure = death + villain gloating scene! And while I was not particularly sad to see the villains go when they did, I still felt like it was a damn shame.
That is why Son of Batman and Flashpoint were crap. Because they were trying to be edgy with style, not substance.
